Add Memories, Stories & Photos about Nancy

Nancy was my best friend, and she was my Mother. There are so many memories about Mom that I have. She was such a wonderful person and I miss her so very much. Today is the 5th anniversary of her Death. She is so missed by her family in Greenfield, IN. When she died, she left behind a husband of 57 years, Robert E. Rickett. She also left behind two loving daughters, Joyce Pulis and Deborah Rickett. And two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. We love and miss her so very much.
Her and my father met while they were both in the Army. They were stationed in San Francisco, CA and Mom always said it was love at first sight. The minute she saw my Dad and for the next 57 years she loved my Dad with all her heart. Shortly after they were married Mom got out of the Army so she could travel with Dad. The first place they sent Dad after they were married was Fairbanks Alaska where my sister Joyce was born a year and a half later. Mom and Dad loved living up there and they were there for three years. After Alaska they drove back down to Canada and drove across the country so they could go and see my Grandparents, Esther and Harold. When they got back to Detroit Mom soon discovered that she was pregnant with me. Dads next assignment was Fort Knox, KY. They were not there even six months when my Dad got his orders to go to Vietnam.

Mom moved back in with my grandparents while Dad was overseas and two months later, I was born. They notified my Dad by telegram that I had been born but all they told him was baby was born and where I was born, and it also said Mother and baby fine. Mom got a letter about two weeks later from my Dad saying that he was so happy that I was born, and we were healthy and then he asked if I was if the baby was a boy or a girl. They didn't put that in the telegram. I was named after my Dad which I have always been proud of, and I have always loved it.

10 months later Dad come home to Mom, my sister and me. We stayed with my Grandparents for about a month before Dad got his orders to go to Texas. Dad was stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio and also at Fort Hood Texas. We were at each place for 18 months.

That is when Dad got his orders for Germany so he went to Germany and Mom, my sister and me moved back in with Grandparents until Dad could get housing and send for us. That happened a few months later. We lived in Germany for three years and we loved it over there. We visited so many places while we were there. I have so many great memories of Germany.
Dads next assignment was Fort Ben, Indianapolis, IN. My sister and I stayed with my Grandparents so we could finish school while Mom and Dad looked for a place for us to live. They finally found a house in a small town called Greenfield, IN and they bought it.
That was 50 years ago, and we are still here.

After Dad retired from the Army, he got a job in a local factory here in Greenfield and when they could Mom and Dad did a lot of traveling to different places around the US. They always loved to travel. They traveled and spent their time together until my Mom got sick. She developed Alzheimer's so her and Dad were no longer able to travel anymore.
When we couldn't take care of her at home anymore unfortunately, she had to be placed in a home. Dad was up there every day all day talking and spending time with the love of his life.

Unfortunately, eight years later Mom left us, and she left this world. We all still love her and miss her so very much. I still go out to her grave and decorate it and take things out there that I know she would have loved. One of these days we will all be reunited with her. We will see all of our loved ones again.

That is all for now. I still have so many great memories of Mom. Which I will share at a later time. When she died, she left a big hole in our family and that will never be filled again. I miss talking and seeing her every day. I know my Dad especially misses her after they were together for so long. I now live with my Dad and we take care of each other. My sister lives nearby and as well as my niece, nephew and my Great nephews and my Great niece.

Thats it for now. I will share more memories at a later time.
