Nancy Matda (Hortanse) Clinnick of Richmond Australia was born in 1907 in Richmond to Norman William Henry Clinnick and Ethel May Wintle. She had a sister Vida Ethel May Clinnick. She married Lionel George Perkins Taylor, and had children Lionel George Taylor and Margaret Taylor. Nancy Clinnick died at age 91 years old in 1998.

In 1907, in the year that Nancy Matda Hortanse Clinnick was born, the Monongah coal mining disaster occurred on December 6th, happening at the Fairmont Coal Company’s No. 6 and No. 8 mines.. Over 361 miners were killed. Because there was no breathing apparatus at the time to help rescuers, recovery efforts were greatly hampered. It is considered the worst mining disaster in American history and led to government oversight in mining practices.

In 1934, she was 27 years old when on July 22nd, gangster John Dillinger was killed in Chicago. His gang had robbed banks and police stations, among other charges, and he was being hunted by J. Edgar Hoover, head of the FBI - although many in the public saw him as a "Robin Hood". A madam from a brothel in which he was hiding became an informer for the FBI and, after a shootout with FBI agents, Dillinger was shot and died.
