Estelle was born December 7, 1898 near Mantee, Mississippi. She had one of the most wonderful fathers in the world. He was a farmer. They lived on a farm. Her mother was raised in a foster home. Estelle had seven brothers and five sisters; thirteen children in all. As a teen her job on the farm was picking cotton. She played basketball in school. When she played she wore a skirt and blouse because she wasn’t allowed to wear shorts. She took a business course at a business college for two years. She was asked to close the county office and that is where she met her husband to be. She married Tom Harman in 1922 in the preacher’s home. They had two children; a girl and a boy. She had a brother that was killed in World War I. She worked at the telephone office as an operator from 1929 to 1964.
