In 1885, in the year that Narcissie Glover was born, on January 24th, the Fenians - Irish Nationalists - set off dynamite bombs in the House of Commons chamber, Westminster Hall, and the Tower of London. Four civilians and two policemen were injured.
In 1897, at the age of merely 12 years old, Narcissie was alive when on September 21st, editor and publisher Francis P. Church responded to a letter to the editor from Virginia O'Hanlon, 8 years old. Virginia's father had told her that "If you see it in The Sun, it's so." So she wrote to the Sun, asking if there was a Santa Claus. Church responded with the now famous editorial "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus".
In 1919, when this person was 34 years old, in the summer and early autumn, race riots erupted in 26 U.S. cities, resulting in hundreds of deaths and even more people being badly hurt. Tension was heightened by the use by many companies of blacks as strikebreakers.
In 1947, Narcissie was 62 years old when on November 25th, the Hollywood "Black List" was created by the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC). In 1990, in the year of Narcissie Glover's passing, on April 24th, the Hubble telescope was launched into space after long delays due to the Challenger explosion.
