Ned Lomayestewa was a highly regarded elder in the Antelope clan of the Hopi culture. He was very traditional, and spoke both Hopi and English fluently. Ned dedicated much of his life to serving his community of Shongopovi as a priest within the clan and passed many hours in the kiva located next to his daughter, Ila's home. Mr. Lomayestewa was a renowned weaver, and spent hours at the loom in the front room of his traditional pueblo dwelling, where the sunlight filtering in through the front door illuminated the beautiful sashes, skirts, and other textiles he wove from hand-spun cotton. Mr. Lomayestewa was a knowledgeable teacher, and he shared narratives through which he taught the youth valuable traditional knowledge and important cultural lessons.
