Nellie M. Johnston
I've "rescued" an old teacher's souvenir for Nellie M. JOHNSTON which includes her photograph. The item is dated 3 Oct 1898 to 26 May 1899 from School Dist. No. 52, Harmony, Clark Co., WA. The souvenir includes the names of all her students along with school board members. Based on limited research and thanks to area researchers I was able to gather the following information regarding Nellie and her family:
Nellie JOHNSTON was b. Sept 1869 in Iowa to parents Benjamin L. JOHNSTON (b. 24 Jun 1843 in Pennsylvania – d. 22 Jun 1900 buried at Sunnyside Cemetery in Washougal, WA) and Martha E. LONG (1849-1883). Nellie married Robert Gordon Drummond WILLSON (1859-1929) and she died 8 Aug 1942 in Vancouver, WA and is buried in the Fishers Cemetery in Vancouver, WA. Nellie had one sister, Jessie M. JOHNSTON who married Orson TURK and a brother Charles William JOHNSTON (1876-1937) who married Maude Ethel LOGSDON. Charles and Maude had a son Ralph Edward JOHNSTON (1910-1964) who married Donna Kathleen ROWE and they had a son David Ralph JOHNSTON (1936-2013) who married JoAnn BORDE. David and JoAnn’s son was Jeff JOHNSTON who married Annette and they had a son Stephen JOHNSTON and a daughter Madelyn JOHNSTON.
Census records provide the following information:
1900 census of Preston, WA:
Benjamin JOHNSTON, age 56, born Jun 1845, a widower, born PA, parents born Ireland/PA, a Farmer
Nellie M. JOHNSTON, dau, age 30, born Sept 1869, born IA, parents born PA/OH, Teaching School

I am hoping to return this wonderful old treasure to Nellie’s family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley
