    Nelson Guy Geer m. Esther E. Kendall 24 Sept. 1936 in King Co., WA 1920 US Census of Pacific Co. WA--lists 6 year old Nelson Geer as born in WA living with cousins and an uncle and aunt. Uncle's name is James Cooper, b. about 1871 IA and single. Judging by the large number of nieces and nephews under his care, I would guess he is a mother's brother or relation, come from IA to care for relations whose parents have died.

In 1913, in the year that Nelson Guy Geer was born, the Philippine–American War ended for good in June. While the official end of the war was in 1902, fighting continued for several years. An estimated 200,000 to 250,000 total Filipino civilians died and although the U.S. viewed its role as a colonial presence as one of preparing the Philippines for independence, American colonization drastically changed the character off the culture. The Catholic Church was no longer the state religion and English became the primary language of the government.

Ten Hollywood writers and directors had refused to testify to the Committee regarding "Communists" or "Reds" in the movie industry. The next day, the blacklist was created and they were fired.
