Nicholas J Barile 1915 - 1997

Nicholas J Barile of Preston, New London County, CT was born on November 15, 1915 in Norwich to Giusseppe Barile and Angelina M Barile. He had siblings Bettina DeScisiola, Margerate Albrezio, Maria Barile D'Amato, Sabina Barile D'Amato, Cipriano Barile, and Samuel Barile. Nicholas was baptized circa 1915 in Norwich. He married Carmela M (Crupi) Barile on June 5, 1946, and they were married until Carmela's death on August 10, 1982. He had children Nicholas P Barile, Paul J Barile, and Samuel j Barile. Nicholas Barile died at age 82 years old on December 31, 1997 at Norwich Ct. in Norwich.

    Nicholas J Barile's Parents (Giussepe and Angelina Barile )came from Terlizze Italy to Norwich Ct. in 1912 {?} Their names are permanently ethched in the granite memorial dedicated to, for,and by Italians to honor their ancestors in Norwich,Ct. My Father Paid to have his parents names along with names of his brother John, sisters Bettina (Domenic),their daughter Gina and son Joseph, his sister Margaret (Gitano/Tom) sister Maria and sister Sabina (James V D'Amato). This is a lasting tribute to my father's family. The other names on this beautiful monument are all tributes to Italian immigrants who came to Norwich Ct. to live and prosper.

    Nicholas only went to 7th grade at Bishop School in Norwich Ct. He then took his father's place at the Shoddy Textile Mill in Norwich CT. to help support his family.

    Nicholas was a passionate military man. He joined the National Guard in Norwich Ct. in the early 1930s. He often narrated that when he enlisted in the Guard that was the first time he actually got three square meals to eat up to that time. Nick always talked about when he was activated during the 1938 hurricane he was stationed in Baltic Ct. area because the Shetucket River was overflowing its banks and the Nat. Gd. had to maintain a presence in the area. He also said his elderly mother (Angelina Barile) had no idea of the severity of the hurricane and wanted to know why he wasn't home to eat the fried peppers she had cooked for him.
