Norman Rolfe Gange of Ararat, Ararat Rural City County, VIC Australia was born on November 16, 1877 in Horsham, Horsham Rural City County to George Mitchell Gange and Mary (Loxton) Gange. He had siblings George Mitchell Gange, Ada Margaret Cecilia (Gange) Price, Harold William Gange, Julia Jemima (Gange) Timms, and Edith Maude (Gange) Mciver. He married Flora Jane (Mcdonald) Gange, and had children Norman Stanley Gange, Wilfred George Gange, Irene May Gange, and Harold William Gane. Norman Gange died at age 79 years old on April 12, 1957 in Lismore, Corangamite Shire County, and was buried at Lismore Cemetery in Lismore.

In 1877, in the year that Norman Rolfe Gange was born, on March 2nd, the U.S. presidential election of 1876 was ended with the selection of Rutherford B. Hayes as the winner. Samuel J. Tilden had won the popular vote in November 1876 but 20 votes in the electoral college were in dispute. An informal agreement was made in which Hayes agreed to remove federal troops from South Carolina, Florida, and Louisiana, ending Reconstruction in the South. So, on March 4th, Rutherford B. Hayes became the 19th President of the United States.
