Opal Marie (Doyle) Straub was born to Preston Edwin Doyle (1902 - 1972) and Josephine "Josie" Kennedy (1906 - 1981. She had siblings Hazel (1930 - 1998), Beulah (1931 - 2012), Anna (1933 - 2008), Wanda (1941 - 2014) and two more Doyle sisters. Opal Doyle married (unknown) Straub and they had three children: Sandra, Darlene, and Preston Straub. By the time that Opal was 23, she was a lodger in the Farris household in Chicago, Illinois she said that she was divorced. She was going by the name "Opal Doyle".
