She was married to Wheeler Rosemund Partain, and had children Danny Eugene Partain, Ronald Steven Partain, Charlotte Delaine Partain, and Peggy Ruth Partain. Opal Partain died at age 73 years old on December 2, 1985 in Pell City, St Clair County.

In 1912, in the year that Opal Partain was born, the Girl Scouts of the USA was started by Juliette Gordon Low with the help of Sir Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of Boy Scouts in Great Britain. She said after a meeting with Baden-Powell, "I've got something for the girls of Savannah, and all of America, and all the world, and we're going to start it tonight!" And she did.

In 1941, at the age of 29 years old, Opal was alive when on December 7th, the Japanese attacked the military base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The surprise aerial attack damaged 8 U.S. battleships (6 later returned to service), including the USS Arizona, and destroyed 188 aircraft. 2,402 American citizens died and 1,178 wounded were wounded. On December 8th, the U.S. declared war on Japan and on December 11th, Germany and Italy (allies of Japan) declared war on the United States. World War II was in full swing.
