2 Memories, Stories & Photos about Orville

The most important thing in Orville Ensley Snodgrass's life was his family. He never worried about anything like money, broken things, or what he did or didn't have. But when someone became ill or had trouble, he was there as fast as his car would carry him and he would be on his knees praying that God would take care of the situation. Then he would rrise up and do what he could.

My grandfather was a man of faith and he was firm in his beliefs and I believe that if anyone ever made it to a place called Heaven it was my grandfather, Orville Ensley Snodgrass. He deserves to be there.

I never worried about anything when I was in the presence of my grandfather. He always had everything under control. Everyone liked him so I never worried about a fight or any physical altercations but have there been any I am quite sure he would have taken care of it because my grandfather was over six foot tall and enormously huge in his shoulders and upper body. If he were alive today most women would call him "buff". And he was a looker. But he was so much fun too.
I recall when I was a teenager making a poster of my boyfriend and I with our names on it and I put it on my door. I came home and just school only to find the poster upside down with little fishes drawn on it. I was just certain my little sister had done this. But then my grandfather had a grin on his face and was chuckling. And I said Grandpa did you do this? And he said well he is a mackerel snapper, meaning he was Catholic. I couldn't help but laugh. Then once I had a date with a friend of mine who had long hair and I guess my brothers had told him because he was visiting. So when the doorbell rang they said we'll get it. And they did. I came into the living room and found my brother and my grandfather both wearing sarapes and both with long wigs on their head. Now mind you my grandfather was gray-headed and he had a black long haired wig on. I couldn't help but laugh. It was good that my friend had a great sense of humor too because he found it funny. So I tell you the story just so you will understand that my grandfather could be a very serious man but he also had a great funny side that made him a lot of fun.
