Patrick D. Mungavin Jr., a native of Hastings-on-Hudson who lived in Yonkers for the past 42 years, died Friday at Yonkers General Hospital after a brief illness. He was 63.
A former mechanic, Mr. Mungavin worked for Phelps Dodge Wire and Cable Co. in Yonkers for more than 40 years, before retiring earlier this year.
He was a member of Local 3 of the AFL-CIO.
Mr. Mungavin was born July 7, 1924, to Alice and Patrick D. Mungavin Sr. and attended Hastings schools. He moved to Yonkers after World War II. A U.S. Army veteran, he had served from 1943 to 1946 as a private first class and was awarded a Good Conduct Medal. He and Irene Fennell were married in 1944 in Kansas. His wife died in 1980.
Mr. Mungavin was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Yonkers.
He is survived by his son, Patrick J. Mungavin of Venice, Fla.; two brothers, Joseph Mungavin of Hastings and Thomas Mungavin of New Jersey; two sisters, Margaret Kelly of Buffalo, N.Y., and Mary Chappelear of New York City; and two granchildren.
