He married Mary (Drysdale) Liddy, and had children James Liddy, Emily Agnes (Liddy) Hogan, Patrick Martin Liddy, Marie Veronica (Liddy) Taylor, David Liddy, Janet Drysdale (Liddy) Henry, Kathleen Florence (Liddy) Kennedy, and John"Jack"Liddy. Patrick Liddy died at age 54 years old on August 4, 1914 in Bendigo, VIC Australia, and was buried at Bendigo Cemetery in Quarry Hill, Greater Bendigo City County.

    The Bendigonian, 11 August 1914. The funeral of the late Mr. Patrick Liddy, senr., late of the Victorian railways, took place Thursday to the Bendigo Cemetery leaving deceased late residence, at the corner of Brodie and Palmerston streets, Quarry Hill, at 2 p.m. It was largely attended, the coffin was borne to the grave by Messrs. C. H. Straughair, J. T. Straughair, J. T. Hogan, and J. Leahy. Many choice floral tributes were placed on the coffin, including one from the Railway department.
