Paul was the first child born in Philadelphia. A survivor who shared a cabin next to the Cromptons reported that they were the loudest family onboard. During the time the torpedo hit the ship, and when the second explosion happened the family was not in a state of panic. They were last seen on the deck looking around in confusion.
