    Pedro "Pete" Lopez, 55, died Sunday, November 16, 2008, at his residence in Abilene, Texas. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church with Reverend Terry Brenon officiating. Interment will be in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. A prayer service will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Soliz, David Rodriguez, Joe Garcia, Andrew Lopez, Jerry Johnson and Tony Morrow. Born in Abilene, Texas on April 15, 1953, he was the son of Emilia (Garcia) and Ignacio Perez Lopez. A 1971 graduate of Abilene High School, Pete enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps in 1972, and was honorably discharged in January,1976, with the rank of sergeant in maintenance. He also served two years in the Reserves. In 1976, he became an apprentice plumber with Local Union 654, and began his career with Batjer & Associates as a journeyman plumber. Pete attended McMurry University (1990-94) receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Education, Elementary Education, and ESL Bilingual. He taught five years in Abilene area and one year in Snyder before retiring from teaching. Pete married Delilah Escobedo Torres on March 5,1977 in Stamford, Texas, and settled in Abilene in the mid-1980's. He was a member of St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church and was active in Habitat for Humanity and PACA (People Against Child Abuse) His mother, Emilia Lopez, and one brother, Francisco Lopez, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Delilah Lopez of Abilene; son, Fernando Torres Lopez and wife, Kathryn of Austin; and daughter, Rosalinda Lopez of Abilene. He is also survived by his father, Ignacio Perez Lopez of Abilene; five brothers, Johnny Lopez, Ignacio "Jack" Lopez, Jose Miguel Lopez, and Angel Lopez all of Abilene, and Jerry Lopez of Keller, Texas; a sister, Anna Maria Lara of Abilene; and four grandchildren, Israel, Xavier, Santana and Diego. Pete loved helping people and was a very dedicated father and grandfather. He loved the outdoors, grilling and gardening.
