Percy Charles Westmore 1883 - 1939

Percy Westmore was born in 1883 to William Wescott Westmore and Jemima " Minnie" Pine Westmore, and had siblings Bertie Albert Westmore, Edith Pine (Westmore) Muirhead, Ernest Norman Wescott Westmore, Herbert William Wescott Westmore, and William Frederick Westmore. He married Florence Austin Westmore ( Eyers, and had children Mavis Westmore, Eric Charles Westmore, Alan Westmore, Keith Westmore, and Florence Westmore. Percy Westmore died at age 55 years old on June 7, 1939 in Coburg, Moreland City County, VIC Australia, and was buried at Fawkner Memorial Park 1187 Sydney Rd, in Fawkner.

In 1883, in the year that Percy Charles Westmore was born, on June 16th, children at a children's variety show in Victoria Hall began rushing the stage area and lobby for promised prizes. In the stampede, 183 children of the 1100 present - most of them 3 to 4 years old - were crushed and asphyxiated.

In 1893, Percy was only 10 years old when a songbook, called Song Stories for the Kindergarten, was published by sisters Patty and Mildred Hill. One of the songs included in the book was "Good Morning to All" - later the lyrics were changed and it became "Happy Birthday to You".
