Perry “Pericles” Vassett/ Vaselopoulos was born to Horlambos Vaselopoulos (1879 - 1930) and Annie Maria Vaselopoulos/Vassett (1882 - 1936). His father was born in Greece and his mother was born in Australia. He had eight siblings: James "Dimitris", Marie Louise, Elizabeth "Aphrodite", Constantine, Alex William, Andrew William, John, and Emelea Irene Vassett. Perrie married Florence Ruby Thomas (1915 - 1979) in 1937 in Victoria, Australia and they had three children: two daughters, including Edna Florence who died as an infant, and one son. Perrie enlisted in the Australian military in Port Melbourne in 1939 and served during World War II.
