    Peter Frank Kurtz Jr was born on October 8, 1913 in Houma, Louisiana to parents Peter Frank Kurtz Sr (1869-1942) and Mena Frances Kurtz (1879-1959). He had siblings Leslie Rudolph Kurtz (1901-1901), Lillie May Kurtz (1903-1978), William Hugh Kurtz (1905-1980), and Harold Valmont Kurtz (1908-1964). At the age of 27, on October 16, 1940, he registered for the draft in Houma, Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. Peter was employed by Anthony Larocca at the time of his registration. Then on January 28, 1942, Peter Jr. enlisted in the Army at Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He held the rank of Private. Peter Jr.'s military journey lasted from January 28, 1942, until his honorable discharge on January 12, 1946. He served in the Army branch and contributed his dedicated service to his country. On January 23, 1946 he married Alma Marie Labat (1915–1987) in Gretna, Louisiana.
