He married Louisa Alice (Hobson) Pendlebury in 1903, and had children Leonard William Pendlebury, Sylvia Alice Pendlebury, Frances Marie Pendlebury, Olive Louisa Pendlebury, and Percival Thomas Noel Pendlebury. Peter Pendlebury died at age 90 years old on May 14, 1969 in Sale, Wellington Shire County.

In 1879, in the year that Peter William Pendlebury was born, on October 22nd, Thomas Edison tested the first practical electric light bulb. Lasting 13½ hours before burning out, it used a "a carbon filament or strip coiled and connected to platina contact wires". He applied for a patent on November 4th, receiving the patent in January 1880.

In 1889, he was just 10 years old when on May 31st, the South Fork Dam collapsed. Located in western Pennsylvania, the dam failed - sending more than 20 million tons of water into the towns below it. The flood killed more than 2,200 people in and around Johnstown. The newly formed Red Cross responded to the disaster.
