Philip Alfred Fawcett of Newport, City of Hobsons Bay County, VIC Australia was born in 1886 in Albert Park, Port Phillip City County to Alfred James Fawcett and Eliza Grisdale Fawcett. He had siblings Eliza Amelia Fawcett, Maude Caroline Fawcett, Mary Violet Evel Faucett, Jane Ethel May Fawcett, and Frederick James Fawcett. Philip Fawcett married Elvina Dulcie (Dern) Fawcett in 1926, and died at age 84 years old in 1970 in Newport, City of Hobsons Bay County.

In 1886, in the year that Philip Alfred Fawcett was born, on January 5th, Scottish novelist Robert Louis Stevenson's book the Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde was published. Immediately popular, the paperback book was sold for $1 in the U.S. - almost $25 today. Stevenson's stepson said that he wrote the first draft in under 3 days.

In 1902, when he was 16 years old, the world famous Italian tenor, Enrico Caruso, made the first gramophone recording by a popular singer. Accompanied by only a piano, his voice recordings became a big seller and did much to popularize the new-fangled gramophone. He had to sing into a metal "horn" that relayed his voice to a metal disc. And the songs had to be under 4 and a half minutes!
