Gerard Philippe Homire Larivee was born to Jules "Joe" Larrivee (1852 -1941), and Marie Josephine Sanschagrin (1854 - 1901). Both of his parents were born in Quebec, Canada. He had siblings Maria Eva, Marie Belzimire, Joseph Jules, Marie Josephine, Marie Lucienne, and Joseph Leon Heliodore Larrivee. Philip enlisted in the United States Army on October 1, 1917, and was discharged on August 30, 1919. He was a veteran of World War I. Philip Larrivee married Maria Simoneau (1898 - 1992) on February 3, 1920 in Belknap, New Hampshire, and they had son Edgar Larrivee (1924 - 1999).
