    Philip Livingston Ehrhorn was born on February 26, 1914 in San Francisco, California to parents Edward Conrad "Cord" Ehrhorn (1880-1931) and Josephine Magdalena Johnson (1880-1962). He had siblings Miriam U (1903-1969), Clinton Edward (1906-1979), and Etta May Ehrhorn (1911-1977). He lived in San Francisco until the mid 1930's when he moved to Fremont, Alameda, California, USA. He married Alice Lorraine Maloney (1919–1976) on February 14, 1942 back in his hometown of San Francisco. The couple had one daughter and three sons together. At the time of his registration for the draft on October 16, 1940, Phillip was 27 years old and resided in Santa Clara, California. He was working at the California Jockey Club. On March 2, 1942, Philip enlisted in the US Army at the Presidio of Monterey, California. He was assigned to the Selectees (Enlisted Men) branch of the Army. During his military service, Philip served as a Private and was stationed at various locations. Philip was discharged from the Army on October 14, 1945, after serving for more than three years.
