  • Ethnicity & Family History

Paul Ponchot his father was one of 13 children from Ohio. He had the opportunity to play for the Cincinnati Reds. He was very gifted but they didn't have the money for him not to work. He was very tall and very handsome and exceptionally kind. I was very close to him. He was a great man. Paul fought in World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam in the Navy. When the soldiers had died, Paul would take their dog tags, their wedding rings, or whatever he could take back to their families and tell their families how they truly died, Paul died with a purple heart July 26th 1981. He was the most ambitious man I have ever known. My mother's father Hazel Stocker Ponchot was an amazing woman. She was strong but very petite. She was a fiery Kentucky woman but with a big heart. There wasn't much she couldn't build. She was very smart with money and invested wisely. She came from very humble beginnings. When life became more comfortable for her she never let it go to her head. She loved all her grandchildren. She loved all her children. She loved Phillip greatly. Paul and Hazel had three children. Phillip, Jane, and Terry. Both their sons having served in the Navy like their father. Both sons being very close to one another.

  • Military Service

23 years in Navy. He joined at 17 during the Vietnam Era
  • Personal Life & Family

Phillip followed in his father Paul Ponchot's footsteps when he joined the military. He was a strong man, a man of kindness and conviction. A man of family values and traditions which he passed down to all his children, and they passed down to theirs. We still have a joke we call it "because we're the Ponchots" we stick together no matter what, or "we will get through it no matter what together because we are the Ponchots" LOL My father had a great desire in helping soldiers recover from PTSD. He found a meditation that had helped him and he worked with another Marine that became a mentor in helping many people especially other soldiers. The meditation is from India it is called ishaya it is something that he was very passionate about. His friend can be found on Facebook. Sahadradyva I believe is the name of his friend that is a former Marine who became an Ishaya to help others recover from PTSD.
