Phyllis Pleskac had siblings Forrest Bales Canova, Eunice Bales Bakos, Kathleen Bales Jackson, and Vivien Bales. She married John P. Pleskac. She married Elliott G. Garrison, and they had children Norman R. Garrison and Margaret E. Garrison. Phyllis Pleskac died at age 75 years old on September 3, 1994, and was buried in August 1994.

In 1919, in the year that Phyllis B Pleskac was born, Indian lawyer Mahatma Gandhi initiated the Satyagraha campaigns, beginning the nonviolent resistance movement against British rule of India. Satyagraha means "holding onto truth" and the campaign for India independence, which was eventually obtained, called for "self-suffering" rather than inflicting suffering (i.e., violence) on others.

In June, she had been part of a 3 man crew that flew the Atlantic Ocean but since she had no instrument training, she couldn't fly the plane - she kept the flight log. The North American flight became one of her many "firsts" as a female pilot.
