Biography
The youngest of Charles, Pierre was baptized on July 19, 1658. He will take Catherine Brunet on November 25, 1685 for nine years his youngest. The couple will have eight children, but three of them will die at a young age. Strangely enough, these three children were all boys who bore the name of Pierre. Here are the five who reached adulthood: John the Baptist baptized December 26, 1691; Louise on February 7, 1697; François on January 25, 1701; Joseph on June 13, 1705 and Toussaint on November 1, 1709. Jean-Baptiste, François and Joseph also settled in the seigneury. He obtained a concession in the seigneury of Longueuil at the very beginning of the 1690s. This is what is indicated in the concession act of April 17, 1695 (# 2874 of the C. Maugue registry) where it is said that : “… Of which land he is ious (enjoying) before this day by a note from said donor lord…”. We do not believe that he lived in this concession before the year 1700-1701 because he had all his first children baptized in Montreal, where he had a concession on the Côte Saint-Louis since 1685 (# 1659 of the registry of B . Basset) and a house on a site on rue Notre-Dame which he had owned since 1689 (# 2005 from the B. Basset registry). And then from 1701, his children will find themselves registered in the parish register of Saint-Antoine de Pade. We therefore believe that he lived for ten years on rue Notre-Dame before coming to Longueuil. He sold this site to the Reverend Jesuit Fathers on June 10, 1699 for the sum of 400 pounds. It was therefore in 1699 that he settled on his concession of 80 arpents. But it seems that he is not so keen on residing there because in 1701 he sold this concession to a man named Jean Ferron, his brother-in-law who was married to Élisabeth Patenotre. This sale is concluded for the sum of 800 pounds which indicates that this land must include several acres of cultivable land. But this sale will be canceled a few months later, the buyers surrendering their right to Pierre Patenotre and Catherine Brunet. They will then continue to reside in Longueuil, and this, at least until the summer of 1710, because he had his last child baptized in November 1709 in the parish. He may have stayed there longer. One thing is certain, he died at the end of March 1715, being buried on the 31st of this month. The fact that it was the parish priest of Saint-Antoine, Mr. Isambart who shared the property of the estate of Pierre Patenotre, certainly tells us that the couple lived in the seigneury until 1715. Note that it is his son François Patenotre who will buy all the shares of inheritance to reunite in a single land the concession of his late father (# 604 from the registry of notary David). Like his brother Charles, Pierre Patenotre died without having much wealth.
