He married Haidee (Coetzer) McLaughlan on February 28, 1970 in Vereeniging, Sedibeng County, GP, and they were married until Haidee's death on February 4, 2019 in Vereeniging. Pieter McLaughlan has children Quintin McLaughlan and Samantha (McLaughlan) Olivier.
