    His parents were Andrea Cestaro (1818-1893) and Carolina Esposito Cestaro (1848-1935), both immigrants from Naples, Italy. He had two brothers, Antonio (1885-1959) and Giuseppe Cestaro (1893-1949). He was known to be a very hard working man, whom had delivered ice for a living, along with indulging liver sandwiches as well. He was a very courteous and respect man, along with being very honest, and whenever he gave an Italian form of kisses, his mustache would tickle the cheeks of people.

    Pietro Cestaro was born in his home, in Little Italy, Manhattan, New York, on May 10th, 1883, and had spent the first ten years of his life in Little Italy until 1893, when his father was killed in a horse accident. Since his mother could no longer afford to live in America, they had went back to Italy to live, and he then spent the next fourteen years of his life living in Sala Consilina, Salerno, Campania, Italy. Two years after marrying a native from the Salerno Village, Vincenzo Sabbia (1890-1955), he and his wife, along with his mother and his two brothers and his wife’s parents and one brother, had immigrated back to America, and he settled in Jersey City, Marion Section. His one brother settled in the same place, and then his other brother settled in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, New York. His mother settled in Jersey City, along with the Sabbia family as well. The brother had settled in Jersey City, and a year later, his father in law Onofrio Sabbia (1850-1908), had died, and right after his mother in law, Della Mario (1850-1940), had moved out to Chicago, Illinois, and later died there. Pietro Cestaro loved to be home making homemade Italian Wine in his basement first on Wallis Ave, and then later on Wright Ave after working 12-17 hours a day, almost seven days a week from delivering ice. He died on December 31st, 1957, in Jersey City, NJ, and he was buried with his wife and grandson Joseph Prinzo (1928-1932), in Holy Name Cemetery.

    Pietro Cestaro was baptized in the St Patrick’s Cathedral on July 10th, 1883, at two months old. He had made his reconciliation in March of 1891, at seven years old, and made his first communion in May of 1891 at eight years old, which were also in the St Patrick’s Cathedral. He had made his confirmation, in Sala Consilina, Salerno, Italy, in June of 1897. He was then married in Sala Consilina, Salerno in 1905. He then received the anointing of the sick, right before dying, in 1957, in Jersey City, NJ.
