Pius James Usselman's History: 1918 - 1988

Uncover new discoveries and connections today by sharing about people & moments from yesterday.
  • Introduction

Pius was born on the John & Loretta Lemare farm off Hwy 14 which is approximately 3 miles as the crow fly to where he spent his entire life as a farmer (other than his stint in the Army during WWII where he fought and survived The Battle of the Bulge). He had 7 brothers and 8 sisters. He was a self-taught veterinarian and helped neighbors with their animal emergencies. He was a great storyteller and loved to laugh, sometimes so hard he couldn't finish his story for awhile. His laughter was infectious. He was kind to all and had a big heart. He was always helping the old timers with things they needed done. He loved hunting and fishing and did so when possible. He also worked as a deputized city hall cop when a local couple got married and had a wedding dance in the town of Drake, ND. He was also a wonderful dancer who could polka, waltz, shottish, and foxtrot with the best of them.
