Ralph Vernon Korhnak was born on December 16, 1928 in Pittsburgh, PA to parents Ralph Victor Korhnak (1899-1976) and Lucie Katchmar (1903-1993). He had a sister Carole Audrey Korhnak (1933-2017). They grew up in Forest Hills, Allegheny, Pennsylvania. He enlisted on September 19, 1946, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He chose to join the United States military and became a part of the Air Corps. Upon joining, Ralph Korhnak began his military service as a Private in the Regular Army. On March 25, 1983 he married Irene Mae Stickney (1927–2010). The couple moved to Florida in the 1990's residing in Orlando, FL.
