  • Introduction

Ramona Ellen Page Crisp was born prior to the fall of the stock market in 1929. Her family was not rich, but got by during the great depression. She had an older brother and younger sister and many relatives on both sides of her family. She grew up during World War II graduating in 1947 from Canton South High School. She eloped with Eugene Crisp and another couple in January of 1947 in Kentucky. Eugene had served during World War II and returned to Canton after the war as his family had relocated there. Ramona gave birth to her first child on June 6, 1948. A boy named Earl Wayne after two of Eugene's cousins. While her husband was serving again in the Navy during the Korean War, Ramona worked at as a timekeeper at Timken Roller Bearing Corporation. On March 17, 1955, she welcomed her second child, Patricia Carol. Since she was told that she was having a boy, she didn't have any girls names picked out, and since it was St. Patrick's day, Patricia was picked as the first name. In 1958, Eugene was sent to Texas to serve at the Naval Base located in Dallas, TX. From that point on, Texas would be her home until her death. She raised both children to be active in sports, church, Scouts, and school activities. For 4 lovely years, they had to live on the Naval Base in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, just South of New Orleans. That was a memorable experience. Eugene retired at the end of that tour and they returned to Texas to live out their days. Ramona began her career as a Cashier at K-Mart Corporation in 1972 and retired 15 years later. She enjoyed gardening, exercise, square dancing, reading, and painting. In 1991, she and Eugene built a new home and she enjoyed decorating the new home and making it a wonderful place. It was right down the street from her daughter, so she had access to her grandchildren in close proximity until her death.
