    Randal C. Mueller,87,of Huntingdon Valley,died May 20,2011. Husband of the late Evelyn L.(Smith). Longtime employee of Standard Press Steel,Jenkintown;member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Huntingdon Valley. Survived by two children,four grandchildren,three great-grandchildren,and a sister. Services 12:30 P.M. Wednesday,May 25 Gloria Dei Lutheran Church,570 Welsh Rd.,Huntingdon Valley. Friends may call after 11:30 A.M. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Contributions to either Arthritis Foundation,111 S. Independence Mall East,Suite 500,Philadelphia,PA 19106 or to the American Cancer Society,700 Horizon Dr.,Suite 201,Chalfont,PA 18914. In 1923, in the year that Randal Carl Mueller was born, on August 2, President Warren G. Harding died in office, apparently of a heart attack. He was staying at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco after completing a nationwide tour. Suffering from cramps, indigestion, a fever and shortness of breath, his doctor thought he had food poisoning. After several days of being ill, he suddenly shuddered, slumped over, and died. There were rumors of foul play (some thought that his wife had poisoned him because of his affairs) but no evidence has ever been found.

In 1934, by the time he was only 11 years old, on July 22nd, gangster John Dillinger was killed in Chicago. His gang had robbed banks and police stations, among other charges, and he was being hunted by J. Edgar Hoover, head of the FBI - although many in the public saw him as a "Robin Hood". A madam from a brothel in which he was hiding became an informer for the FBI and, after a shootout with FBI agents, Dillinger was shot and died.
