They was married to Velma M Maxey, and had children James O Maxey, Amanda Maxey, Robert Maxey, Rapherd Maxey Jr., Bettye Maxey, June Maxey, Jackie Maxey, and David Maxey. Rapherd Maxey died at age 77 years old in October 1982.
