I knew Ray Knaggs of Oshkosh, WI, and his wife, Eleanor, when I was 10-11 years old around 1960-1962. They were good people. I used to walk Ray’s dog, Inky, for him, as Ray was disabled. After Inky died they got a mini-schnauzer, named Ming. Ray bought me my first dog, Sparky, a beagle. They also bought me a parakeet, Billy Boy. I felt cared about by these people. They wanted me to live with them, but we lived in NE, and only visited my grandmother, who lived next door to them on Hickory Lane in Oshkosh, (on lake Winnebago), in the summer. I last visited their home in summer of 1970. My first son was a year old, and I was five months pregnant with my second son. Eleanor was there, but not Ray, so at the time I assumed he had passed. Now, I see he did not die until March of 1971, the following year. I wish I had known he was still alive, as I certainly would have gone to see him.

Did you know?
In 1906, in the year that Ray Knaggs was born, President Theodore Roosevelt received the Nobel Prize for Peace. The award was considered controversial at the time because many thought that he was an imperialist. But he had brokered peace between Russia and Japan a year previous and had allowed a dispute between Mexico and the U.S. to go to arbitration, resolving the issue peacefully rather than resorting to military conflict. For these two reasons, the Nobel Prize committee chose him for the Peace Prize.
Did you know?
In 1917, by the time he was only 11 years old, Russian government offices were seized and the Romanov's Winter Palace was stormed in the Russian February and October Revolutions. The February revolution resulted in the abdication of Tsar Nicholas and a coalition of the Parliament and workers parties taking control of the government. The October revolution resulted in Lenin and the Bolsheviks taking complete control.
