Raymond August Zettler was born on June 15, 1921 in Stratford, Marathon County, Wisconsin United States to Louis Frederick Zettler and Frances (Schultz) Zettler, and had siblings Genevieve Zettler Rose, Victor Zettler, and Donovan J Zettler. He married Helen Jane (Motowski) Zettler, and had children Susan Zettler Benjamin and Michael Zettler. Raymond Zettler died at age 96 years old on July 7, 2017 in Rhinelander, Oneida County, and was buried on July 13, 2017 at Nativity of Our Lord Parish Catholic Cemetery in Rhinelander.

    Raymond A. "Adolph" Zettler of Rhinelander passed away peacefully at his residence at the age of 96. Raymond was born in Stratford on June 15, 1921, the son of Louis and Frances (Schultz) Zettler. The family eventually moved to Rhinelander where Raymond graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1939. He then worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Blue Lake area. Raymond proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army serving in the Philippines. Among the commendations that he received were two Bronze Stars. After Raymond was honorably discharged from the service he returned to Rhinelander. He was employed with the Rhinelander Brewery. He eventually met his future wife Helen Motowski and the couple were married at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Oct. 3, 1959. The couple shared 42 years of marriage before Helen passed away. Raymond was employed by the paper mill in Rhinelander for over 30 years working as a chemist in the coating department. He retired from the paper company in 1983. Raymond was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church where he participated in the Knights of Columbus and had volunteered at the St. Joseph Thrift Shop for many years. He loved hunting and fishing and held the state record for many years for catching the largest Splake. Raymond enjoyed golfing and had been on a bowling league. He will be remembered for his deep faith in his religion. He will be dearly missed by his children, Michael "Mick" (Karen) Zettler of Rhinelander, and Susan (Joseph) Benjamin of Hershey, Pa.; five grandchildren, Rayanne Zettler of Rhinelander, Kristy (Christopher) Botkin of Lake Villa, Ill., Tony Messina of Rhinelander, Joseph "Jake" Benjamin of Downingtown, Pa., Larissa Benjamin of Hoboken, N.J., and by three great-grandchildren Lillian Botkin, Olivia Botkin and Henry Botkin. Also surviving are one brother Victor Zettler of Rhinelander and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Helen in 2002; one great-granddaughter Faith Botkin, one brother Donovan (Charlotte) Zettler, one sister Genevieve (Paul) Rose and his best friend and McDonald's buddy for many years, Earl Druckrey. The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church (St. Joseph site) with Fr. Randy Knauf and Dn. Ron Bosi officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Cemetery, with full military honors being conducted by the Ray Rousseau V.F.W. Post 3143 Rhinelander and by two representatives from the United States Army.
