Raymond Melican of Paxton, Worcester County, MA was born on September 14, 1911 to Denis Melican and Susan E Melican. He had siblings Isabel Melican, Walter Melican, and Louise Melican. He married Katherine Melican in April 1946 in Worcester, Worcester County United States, and they were married until death separated them. He had children Bernard Joseph Melican, Susan Melican, Margaret Melican, Denis Melican, Elizabeth Odell, and Clare Rhodes. Raymond Melican died at age 90 years old on March 31, 2002 at Saint Vincent Hospital 123 Summer St, in Worcester, Worcester County.

In 1911, in the year that Raymond Melican was born, the United States Supreme Court broke up Standard Oil in May. John D. Rockefeller established Standard Oil in 1870 and it was the largest oil refinery at the time. The Supreme Court found that Standard Oil of New Jersey (one of the many iterations of Standard Oil) was guilty of "monopolizing the petroleum industry through a series of abusive and anticompetitive actions". The Court broke up the several entities that comprised Standard Oil and they eventually became competing firms.
