Raymond Svitak was born to Joseph Svitak (1896 - 1965) and Viola Koscinska (1907 - 1945). Both of his parents were born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He had six siblings: Joseph Francis, Dorothy Barbara, William, Constance, Alfreda, and Eugene Philip Svitak. Raymond married Helen Goldsmith and they had children Joseph, William, Eugene, Raymond, Dorothy, Constance, and Alfreda Svitak.
