Reuben Dalgleish Cairns was born in 1893 in Mornington, VIC Australia to John Dalgleish Cairns and Emma (Baldry) Cairns, and had siblings Douglas Pendal Cairns, Alexander John Cairns, Mabel (Cairns) Sykes, and Beatrice (Cairns) Robinson. Reuben Cairns died at age 21 years old on August 29, 1915 at Gallipoli in Turkey, and was buried at Lone Pine Memorial 9. in Turkey (including Gallipoli).

    Death Date could be incorrect. Letter dated 29th August 1915. Cairns was in charge on 26th or 27th May about 2 miles on left of Walkers Ridge.After the charge informant was told by one of the men in the Squadron that Cairns was killed shot through the head.

CAIRNS.- Killed in action on the 29th August, ( previously reported missing ), Private Reuben Dalgleish, youngest son of John and the late Emma Cairns, and brother of Alex, Mabel, Douglas and Beatrice. On Anzac's field of battle, With a spirit brave and true, He fought for our right and freedom, What more can a hero do ?
