Ricardo Diaz volunteered for many years at an AIDS/HIV resource group in San Diego, California called Being Alive San Diego. Ricardo was Event Coordinator for their Recreation Program. Each week Ricardo would take groups of low-income clients to events throughout San Diego, completely free of charge. These events included San Diego Padres baseball games, live theatre, the symphony, ballets, Aztec football games and every circus or Disney production that came to town. Even when Ricardo could no longer stand he would take his motorized wheelchair to work and to events without a single complaint. Many of Ricardo's clients rarely left their homes for anything other than hospital of doctor visits, but with his help they were able to lead fuller, happier lives. He made a difference.
