Joined the army and had his first marriage October 22, 1960, to Phyllis Jean Brinegar. Had first child, Susan Chantal Conn, April 18, 1963. Second child, Sheryl Colleen Conn, October 22, 1964, on his forth Wedding Anniversary. Honorable discharge from army in 1964. Divorced Phyllis in 1970. Second marriage on November 18, 1983 to Bobbi Jean Boling-Newberry. Stayed married until his death in Kerrville, Texas.

In 1939, in the year that Richard Dennis Conn was born, in May, Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first full-length animated film, reached a total international gross of $6.5 million which made it (to then) the most successful sound film of all time. In 1948, by the time he was merely 9 years old, on January 30th, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated in New Delhi by a member of a Hindu nationalist party who thought that Gandhi was too accommodating to Muslims. The man, Nathuram Godse, shot Gandhi 3 times. He died immediately. The shooter was tried, convicted, and hung in November 1949.
