He married Ann Bowyer, and had children Alan James Rundell, William Ralph Rundell, Clarice Annie Rundell, and Waveney Irene "Bunny" Rundell. Richard Rundell died at age 75 years old on April 10, 1945 in Hamilton, Southern Grampians Shire County, and was buried at Myamyn and Condah Public Cemetery in Condah, Glenelg Shire County, Victoria.

He lived in Myamyn, Wannon, Victoria, Australia and Branxholme, Wannon, Victoria, Australia. In 1910, he married Ann Boyer (1874-1971) in Victoria, Australia. The couple had a daughter together, Waveney Irene Rundell (1918-2013).
