Richard J. Crosby Sr., 87, of 513 First St., Monessen, died Wednesday, April 29, 1992, at 4 a.m. in Mon Valley Hospital Inc.. Carroll Township. Born May 23, 1904, in Salem, W.Va., he was the son of the late Richard and Bessie Jack Crosby. A Monessen resident since 1934, Mr. Crosby had been employed as a motion picture projectionist throughout the Mon Valley area. His career began with silent films and concluded upon his retirement when the former Manos Theater in Monessen ceased its operations. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monessen, and the Mon Valley Leathernecks, and served as business agent for the Motion Picture Machine Operators Union Local 628 of the AFL-CIO. He also served as past post commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1190, Monessen. He served as a Marine guard for the U.S. Legation in Peking, China, during the 1920s and was awarded the Yangtze Service Medal in Shanghai in 1927 while on expeditionary duty there as a member of a landing party from the U.S.S. Chaumont. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence, and three sisters, Ella and Betty Crosby and Marion Ruby. Surviving are his wife, Eloise Harman Crosby, two sons, Richard Crosby of Bethel Park and Dayne Crosby of Monessen, three grandchildren, three nieces and three nephews. Friends will be received Thursday evening from 7 to 9 and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Stephen D. Yoney Jr. Funeral Home, First Street and Schoonmaker Avenue,Monessen. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m.in the funeral home with Rev. Reinold Schlak,pastor of St.Paul's Lutheran Church of Monessen,officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors at Belle Vernon Cemetery. The Stephen D. Yoney Jr.Funeral Home is handling funeral arrangements.ADVERTISEMENT BYLooking for more information?
