Richard John Charles Moyle 1845 - 1922

Richard John Charles Moyle was born on February 13, 1845 at Kaapstad in Cape Town South Africa to Richard Moyle and Caroline Maria (Broome) Moyle, and had a brother William Duncan Moyle. He married Rebecca (Whittenham) Moyle, and had children Gertrude Rebecca (Moyle) Harvey, Florence Maud Moyle, and Thomas Moyle. Richard John Moyle died at age 77 years old in 1922.

In 1845, in the year that Richard John Charles Moyle was born, on December 29th, Texas was admitted as the 28th state. Formerly part of Mexico, then an independent Republic, Texas consisted mainly of American settlers - English speaking - in the north and former Mexican citizens - Spanish speaking - in the south and west when admitted to the Union.

In 1857, by the time he was only 12 years old, on March 6th, the US Supreme Court ruled that Blacks were not citizens and that slaves couldn't sue for freedom. The case was known as Dred Scott v. Sandford. It further divided the country and added to the forces that created the Civil War. It wasn't overturned until the 14th Amendment became law in 1868.
