  • Introduction

Dick was an only child, as was I. We became like brothers when we both served in the US Navy. His death was a devastation to me, and entirely unexpected as it was a car accident somewhere in the Pocono Mountains. I wish him to be remembered as a great fellow, and sort of adopted brother to me. He served with me at NavComSta in the Philippines from 1960 to 1962. We both went to school at NSA after that as I remember it. I went to Dick's birth place in Bridgeport, CT where his parents still lived. Michael Galla, his father treated me like another son, and I learned a lot about the Italian's and their drinking habits. Lol. I meant a girl there in Bridgeport that I shall never forget. We parted company when I was assigned a new station in Japan. Dick had the greatest sense of humor of all. When I flew into Idlewild Airport he was there to greet me. He brought along this gal, whom I had never seen before He hid behind a wall, and when I got off the plane this gal came running up to me, and hugged me and kissed me like she had known me for years. All the while Dick was hiding behind this wall, laughing up a storm. Ya, that was Dick Galla, he was just like that.
