Rita Ann (Ostronic) Gradoville of Omaha, Douglas County, NE was born on April 17, 1928. She was married to Robert Gradoville, and had a child Margaret Sue (Gradoville ) Carson. Rita Gradoville died at age 74 years old on August 6, 2002, and was buried at Resurrection Cemetery 7800 W Center Rd, in Omaha.

    Rita (Ostronic) Gradoville was married to Robert (Bob) Gradoville (they are my grandparents). They had 8 children: Gary, Jan, Bill, Lorita (Lori), Ron, Mark, Margaret (Peggy) and Donna. Rita and Bob have many grandchildren (19) and even more great grandchildren (23). Rita and Bob were devout Catholics and active parishioners at Our Lady of Lourdes church in Omaha, Nebraska. Rita was a leader in the Pro-Life movement and helped lead Metro Right to Life on Omaha.

In 1928, in the year that Rita Gradoville was born, aviatrix Amelia Earhart, age 31, became the first woman to fly solo across North America and back in August. In June, she had been part of a 3 man crew that flew the Atlantic Ocean but since she had no instrument training, she couldn't fly the plane - she kept the flight log. The North American flight became one of her many "firsts" as a female pilot.

In 1934, she was just 6 years old when on July 22nd, gangster John Dillinger was killed in Chicago. His gang had robbed banks and police stations, among other charges, and he was being hunted by J. Edgar Hoover, head of the FBI - although many in the public saw him as a "Robin Hood". A madam from a brothel in which he was hiding became an informer for the FBI and, after a shootout with FBI agents, Dillinger was shot and died.
