Robert Wood married Edith Mary Young in 1924, and died at age 50 years old on March 14, 1953 in Ballarat, City of Ballarat County.

In 1915, when he was only 13 years old, in May, the RMS Lusitania was sunk by a German torpedo. The Lusitania was a British passenger ship that was sailing from New York to Liverpool England. "Remember the Lusitania" became the rallying cry of World War 1.
