I am Carole J. Rae (Inklebarger) and Robert C. Rae was my Dad. I am the 3rd of 4 children. I was born when my Dad was 41 years old. I grew up in Saint Clair Shores, Michigan with my 3 siblings.
My Parents stayed Married until my Mom (Virginia M.Rae ( nee Thiede) died in 1981. After my Mother died, he took on the role of both Mom and Dad. He did it very well, and I love him dearly for that. There wasn't anything I couldn't talk to him about.
They were both loving and responsible Parents. They raised us to be honest, hard-working and caring adults. I can only speak for myself, but that is the kind of adult I came to be today.
My Dad was artistic, by trade and by hobby. There didn't seem to be anyting he couldn't paint or draw. I am fortunate to have several of his works. He passed this trait to each of his 4 children. We all have our own artistic "specialities."
His Parents, John Re and his Mother, Rose Re (nee Grabowski), came to America from Lombardo, Italy. That's all I was told about my Grandparents.
Robert Rae had a dry, but witty sense of humor. As I became an adult, we became very close, and it was then that I really began to appreciate the man. I visited him almost every week, and he was always gracious and loving when I arrived. Greeted with a kiss hello and a kiss goodbye. I inherited his sense of humor, which I enjoy, and we sometimes would laugh until we drooled.
He also left a journal describing his life, family members, even a sketch of the house where he grew up with his family. I am so grateful for all the things he taught me and I strive to be a living example of the honest, strong, kind and loving human being he (and my Mother) taught me to be.
