ROBERT E. BARKAN

ROBERT E. BARKAN, 57, of Belfield Dr., Johnston, passed away Monday, January 5, 2009 at home. He was the beloved husband of Margaret A. "Peggy" (Abajian) Barkan; loving and devoted father of Heidi L. Ahlquist and her husband Mark of Cranston, Sonya M. Kicia and her husband Kevin of Coventry, and the late Robert E. Barkan, Jr.; loving grandfather of seven; and dear brother of George Barkan of Foster and Heidi Barkan of Cranston. Born in Providence, the devoted son of Johanna (Beine) Barkan of Warwick and the late Edward L. Barkan, he lived in Warwick before moving to Johnston in 1989.

Mr. Barkan worked at BIF Industries and C.I. Hayes as a machine electrician and later at Zebra Technologies as a maintenance mechanic. He also served 11 years with the RI Army National Guard.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, 70 Jefferson St., Providence, and may call at the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Friday 5-8 p.m.
Interment will be in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The Arthritis Foundation, Southern NE Chapter, 2348 Post Road, Suite 104, Warwick, RI 02886.
