    Robert Eugene Clossen was born on October 25, 1926 in Muskingum, Ohio, United States, to Floyd Gile Clossen (1885-1950) and Floide Lillian Knipe (1890-1945). Among his siblings were Dallas Theal, Kenneth M, Donald Herman, Eva A, Rosemary, Dwight, and Harold Allen Clossen. He resided in the Zanesville area until 1997, spending summers in Mooers, New York, and wintering in Sebring. Robert served in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in the Pacific Theatre after Japan's surrender. He was honorably discharged a few months later. Upon returning to Zanesville, he began his career as a mechanic at Granger's Auto Service, where he worked for six years before moving on to Armco Steel Corporation. He remained a loyal employee of Armco's maintenance department for 33 years. Robert had a passion for woodworking and spent countless hours in his garage creating various projects. His skills extended beyond woodworking to building multiple homes in the Zanesville area for his family and others, as well as working on cars and completing various home projects. He was a member of First United Methodist Church during his residency in Zanesville. Robert was married to Evelyn M. Forsythe Clossen, and together they had a son named Craig Clossen. After his wife's passing, he later found companionship with Doris Crawford.

This was during the latter stages of World War II, which had been raging since 1939. His military branch is listed as "No Branch Assignment," which may indicate that they were part of a pool of soldiers waiting to be assigned to a specific branch of the military. At the time of their enlistment, he held the rank of Private, Selectees (Enlisted Men), which is the lowest rank in the U.S. Army. Robert's terms of enlistment were "for the duration of the war or other emergency, plus six months, subject to the discretion of the President or otherwise according to law." This was a common enlistment term during World War II, as it allowed the military to retain soldiers for as long as they were needed to fight the war and stabilize the world. Robert served this country proudly in World War II in the United States Army. He was stationed in the Pacific Theatre after the surrender in Japan and was discharged several months later.

His skills were not limited to woodworking as he was also able to build numerous homes in the Zanesville area, not only for his family but also for others. He had an excellent aptitude for home projects and was quite skilled in working on cars as well.

    WHITE COTTAGE - Robert Eugene Clossen, 80, of Sebring, Fla., passed away July 3, 2007. Bob was born in Adams Township in Muskingum County on Oct. 25, 1926, to the late Floyd G Clossen and Lillian F Knipe Clossen. He resided in the Zanesville area until 1997, spending summers in Mooers New York and wintering in Sebring. Robert served this country proudly in World War II in the United States Army. He was stationed in the Pacific Theatre after the surrender in Japan and was discharged several months later. After serving the United States Army, he returned to Zanesville starting a career at Granger's Auto Service as a mechanic and stayed there for six years. He left to further his career at Armco Steel Corporation where he was employed loyally for 33 years in the maintenance department. Bob is survived by his loving partner, Doris Crawford; one son, Craig Clossen; his sister, Carol E Clossen Burgess; and his two brothers, Kenneth M. Clossen and Dwight E. Clossen. Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife, Evelyn M. Forsythe Clossen; his two sisters Eva A. Clossen Reed and Rosemary Clossen; and three brothers Dallas T. Clossen, Harold A. Clossen and Donald Clossen. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday July 7, 2007, at William Thompson & Son Funeral Home 5765 Gladstone Drive, White Cottage. The Rev. Carl Barker will officiate and burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 4418 Sun N. Lakes Blvd., Sebring Fla., 33872. They supported him with medication, staff, counseling, and made his final days dignified and as much quality of life as possible.
