The Argus, Melbourne. 28th November 1908. MARRIAGES. McCRACKEN.- SWEETMAN. On the 4th November, at the residence of the bride's brother, Rupanyup, by the Rev. W. J. Duncan, Robert Hill, eldest son of the late Hugh McCracken, of Stawell, to Martha, fourth daughter of the late John Sweetman of "Pinevale," Rupanyup.

McCRACKEN.- On April 9, ( suddenly ), at Stawell District Hospital, Robert Hill, dearly beloved husband of Martha McCracken, of 24 Sealy street, Stawell, loving father of Keith ( Stawell ), Lillian ( Stawell ), Colin ( Morwell ), Mary ( Mrs. E. ( Trueman, Altona), and Bruce ( Ararat ) Aged 75 years.

In 1879, in the year that Robert Hill McCracken was born, on October 22nd, Thomas Edison tested the first practical electric light bulb. Lasting 13½ hours before burning out, it used a "a carbon filament or strip coiled and connected to platina contact wires". He applied for a patent on November 4th, receiving the patent in January 1880.

In 1903, by the time he was 24 years old, the Ford Motor Company was incorporated in June after Henry Ford left another car company he founded in 1901 (which became the Cadillac Motor Company). He began Ford Motor Company with $28,000 in cash from twelve investors, two of whom (the Dodge brothers) later began their own car company. Henry Ford improved on assembly line techniques and has been so successful that his family still controls a very popular Ford line of cars and trucks.
